Facility Inspections

Grade: A

In addition to being a first rate nursing home overall, this place also excelled in inspections, where it received an A. Not many nursing homes performed better in this area. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining our inspection grades. One key factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more important than the number of deficiencies, as some of these end up being quite minor. While this place had a few minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means CMS didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

We also want to draw your attention to the fact that this nursing home was awarded a dominant grade of A in our long-term care category. When facilities receive a score in this range in long-term care it typically means it's well-staffed and is a quality place to reside on a permanent basis. After considering the volume of care provided by nurses, we turned to the facility's vaccination record. This nursing home vaccinated 96.178345 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is very impressive. Pneumonia is too frequently a dangerous ailment for nursing home residents so we like it when a nursing home does not roll the dice on this issue. Lastly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A

Among its many impressive grades, this facility received an excellent nursing grade. In fact, we gave it a grade of A in that category. Our nursing rating focuses on the facility's nurse staffing levels. We consider both the levels of training of the nurses and the quantity of hours spent with patients. This nursing home averages 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the country in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as employing a protocol of turning a resident more frequently.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

In the final category we graded, this nursing home was awarded a very strong grade of A- in our short-term care category. With this grade, the facility completed a straight A report card. Short-term care ratings are important for people seeking rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically requires more skilled nursing. This means a vast scope of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other types of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this facility employs registered nurses. Not every facility employs these types of nurses. However, based on the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Lastly, we assessed the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 5.7 percent of this facility's patients returned home.
