Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home earned a strong overall grade as mentioned above, but we wanted to emphasize its excellent long-term care rating. We awarded them a grade of A in this category. Nursing homes that receive this type of score in this category typically provide consistent 24/7 care to make sure residents are well cared for. Once we assessed the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is much higher than most nursing homes. The last statistic we assessed is the facility's hospitalization rate. We found that this place had 1.85 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is middle of the road in this area.
Nurse Quality
This facility is also strong in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of B. It outperformed most nursing homes in this category. Nursing scores are mostly associated with the facility's level of nurse staffing. This particular nursing home provided 3.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at some quality-based measures in this category. This place fared well in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at. For example, in terms of the number of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, this place performed better than the national average. This is generally an indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Pressure ulcers can generally be avoided with better nursing care.
Facility Inspections
This nursing home also earned favorable government inspections in recent years. We gave them one of our better scores in that category, with a B. Inspection grades are tied to several items found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that receive favorable grades in this category have very few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these facilities generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like we have information on deficiency's for this nursing home. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
The final category we graded was short-term care, in which we gave it an above average grade of B. This facility really does not have any weak areas. With our short-term care assessment, we try to create a sound measure for rehabilitation services. In this process, we analyze a nursing home's levels of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. We were pleased to find that this nursing home employs both registered nurses and physical therapists. The same can't be said for all nursing homes. Finally, we assessed the number of residents who were able to return home from this facility. This place outperformed the majority of nursing homes in the nation with 53.6 percent of its residents returning home. This is a better rate than most facilities.
