Facility Inspections
On top of being a quality nursing home overall, this nursing home especially excelled in the area of inspections, where it earned an A+. Not many nursing homes fared better in this category. Inspection grades take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these issues by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Fortunately, although this facility had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means that CMS didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A few relatively minor deficiencies are not something to panic about.
Nurse Quality
This nursing home performed well in our nursing category. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A- for that category, which is one of our highest scores. The nursing category is based on several components, most of which are tied to quantities of nurse staffing. This place provided 4.6 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This is an impressive figure which typically corresponds with better quality care. Lastly, this facility also performed well in several of the quality-based metrics we assessed. In terms of the percentage of its patients suffering falls leading to serious injury, this place performed as well as any nursing home in the nation.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility was awarded a strong long-term care grade as well. We gave it one of our better scores in that area with a grade of B. Nursing homes that do well in long-term care typically are well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to patients. In addition to considering the impressive quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff at this facility, we also were impressed by the nursing home's vaccination data. By way of example, this facility provided the pneumonia vaccine to 98.89764 percent of its patients, which is what we like to see. The last statistic we looked at was the facility's hospitalization rate. Although it had 2.16 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, its risk adjusted score was middle of the road due to it having some more complex patients.
Short-term Care Quality
Switching gears to the next category, this nursing home was awarded a C for short-term care, which is generally a respectable score. In our short-term care score, we strive to forge a fair barometer for rehabilitation. In doing so, we analyze the facility's level of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. Fortunately, this nursing home offers both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities offer both. The final metric we considered in this area is the number of patients who who were able to eventually return home from the nursing home. We found that just 30.2 percent of this facility's patients returned home.
