Facility Inspections
While this nursing home's overall score was not a highlight, it actually really excelled in the category of inspections. In fact, we awarded it an A- for that category, which is one of our highest scores. Our inspection ratings are tied to pieces of information located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are a key item to look for on these reports. You should especially avoid nursing homes with severe deficiencies associated with endangerment of patients. Amazingly, this was one of the few nursing homes in the country that had no deficiencies whatsoever on its inspection report. This is very impressive. Not having any deficiencies proved to be this nursing home's greatest strength.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility's next most favorable area is long-term care. In that category, we gave this facility a grade of C. For long-term care residents, the primary goal is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. After considering the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination records. Candidly, we were a bit alarmed this nursing home vaccinated 79.11392 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which happens to be significantly below what we expected. On a more positive note, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Nurse Quality
We also wanted to point out that this nursing home received an F for its nursing grade. The nursing category analyzes many factors, many of which are associated with nursing hours. This nursing home averaged just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This is not a very impressive figure. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This nursing home fared well when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.
Short-term Care Quality
The last area we scored was short-term care, where this nursing home was given a very poor grade here as well. Unfortunately, we gave it an F for this category, which is definitely a major concern. With our short-term care assessment, we strive to forge a fair barometer for rehabilitation. In doing so, we analyze a nursing home's scope of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. Based on its grade in this category, we were not surprised to discover that this nursing home was well below average in terms of the number of physical therapy and registered nurse hours offered to its patients based on the measures we looked at. Honestly, this was about what we expected to find. Lastly, we considered the percentage of patients who eventually returned home from this nursing home. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 5 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit off the national average.
