Facility Inspections
The primary reason this facility received a decent overall grade is its excellent inspections in recent years. We awarded it one of our better scores in that category, with an A. This is a much better score than the facility's overall grade, which was decent but certainly not elite. Arguably the most important factor we look at in computing our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a facility's inspection reports. Facilities with higher scores in this category typically dodged the most severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. Fortunately, although this place had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G through L. This tells you CMS did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. We should note that deficiency-free inspections are uncommon in the industry.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility also excelled in the area of short-term care. In fact, we awarded it a score of A- for that category, which is one of our best scores. In the category of short-term care, we strive to evaluate indicators of a facility's rehabilitation services. We analyze a facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. Fortunately, it appear that this facility employs registered nurses. Not every facility employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last datapoint we assessed in this category is the number of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We found that 6.3 percent of this nursing home's residents were able to return home.

Nurse Quality
This facility's next best category was its nursing grade, where it received a grade of B-. The nursing grade includes a handful of components, but the paramount consideration is the quantity of nurse hours per patient per week. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, although this nursing home got dinged a bit for its nursing hours per resident, it actually excelled in a few of our quality measures. With less than five percent of its patients experiencing pressure ulcers, it did well in this subcategory.
Long-term Care Quality
The final area we assessed was long-term care. We gave it a lowly F for this area, which is a very poor grade. This is certainly a major concern. In a long-term care setting, the nursing home's primary goal is to maintain residents' quality of life and keep them safe. On top of assessing the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. Fortunately, this facility administered the vaccine to 98.9899 percent of its residents, which is an above average percentage. To our surprise, this nursing home was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had just 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Unfortunately, a few of its other scores in this category weren't as favorable as these.
