Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home received a strong overall grade as described above, but we especially want to emphasize its excellent short-term care score. We gave them an impressive grade of A in this category. Our short-term care ratings are based on a nursing home's quantity of skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This means a vast spectrum of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other types of therapy. When we assessed this facility's nursing hours, we found it offered substantially more care from registered nurses than most nursing homes. The last statistic we looked at in this category is the number of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We found that it fared as well as just about any facility in Indiana in this area with 62.2 percent of its patients returning home.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we graded this facility so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing grade. Nursing proved to be its second best category grade. In that area, we gave this nursing home an A-. We looked at the qualifications of nurses employed by the facility, as well as the quantity of time those nurses spent with residents, in determining our grade in this area. This nursing home provides an incredible 5 hours of nursing care per resident each day. Out of that total, many of the hours were provided by registered nurses, which is one of the more highly trained levels of nurses. On top of providing impressive levels of nursing care, this facility also performed well in several of the quality measures we looked at. In terms of the number of its residents suffering falls resulting in major injury, this nursing home performed as well as any facility Indiana.
Facility Inspections
Adding yet another impressive category grade, we gave this facility a grade of A- for our inspections rating. Perhaps the most important factor we consider in computing our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a facility's inspection reports. Nursing homes with higher scores in this area typically avoided the more severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. This place received 8 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered to be major deficiencies. This means that the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies to be an imminent risk to resident health or safety. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor leaves us less concerned with this inspection report.
Long-term Care Quality
Switching gears to the fourth area, this facility did not fare very well. Due to a poor grade of F in that category, this was notably this nursing home's poorest area. For prospective residents in need of a permanent place to live rather than rehabilitation, long-term care is a very important category. After looking at nursing hours and other staffing provided by this facility, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination record. Based on its grade in this category, we were pleasantly surprised to discover that this facility performed reasonably well both of these statistics. In fact, this facility vaccinated 98.93617 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is higher than many nursing homes. Surprisingly, this place also wasn't as bad as we expected at keeping its patients out of the hospital. While it had 1.93 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, its risk adjusted statistic wasn't bad due to it having more complicated patients.
