Facility Inspections
We also would like to emphasize that this nursing home has earned nearly flawless government inspections recently. We gave them an A in this category. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining our inspection scores. One key factor is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies are quite minor. Fortunately, although this nursing home had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you the inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A couple relatively minor dings aren't necessarily something to panic about.
Short-term Care Quality
Contributing to its superb resume, this nursing home also excelled in our short-term care area. In fact, it received a grade of A for the area. Our short-term care grade is often employed to measure a facility's rehabilitation services. To offer highly rated rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to feature better levels of highly skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other licensed professionals. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Finally, we considered the percentage of residents who eventually returned home from this facility. We found that 6.4 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.

Long-term Care Quality
This facility also was given a favorable long-term care grade. In fact, we gave it an above average score of B+ in this area. Nursing homes that excel in this category typically provide residents with closer supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. Once we assessed the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia. Vaccines are critical to keeping patients out of the hospital. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
Nurse Quality
The next category we looked at is nursing. This facility received an impressive nursing grade this year, with a B. Even though this is not nearly as good as some of its other grades, this is nevertheless one of our more favorable scores for this category. Nursing grades are largely based on the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This facility provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at certain nursing quality measures in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these metrics as good measures of the caliber of nursing care provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
