Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

We want to draw your attention to the fact that this nursing home really outperformed its overall score in the category of inspections. In fact, it received an excellent inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest scores in this category with an A-. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining our inspection grades. One key factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies end up being quite minor. Although this facility had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple minor deficiencies should not stop you from considering a nursing home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

We also awarded this nursing home a respectable grade in the category of long-term care, where it received a B-. In computing our long-term care scores, we scrutinize the assistance with daily living received by a nursing home's residents. After assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination record. We were a bit alarmed this facility vaccinated 80.098274 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which happens to be quite a bit lower than average. On a more positive note, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

This nursing home's next best category was nursing. We awarded it a grade of C in this category. This is basically a middle of the road grade in this category. Our nursing score looks at the nursing home's nurse staffing levels. We look at both the levels of skill of those nurses and the number of hours spent with residents. This facility provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this nursing home surprisingly fared better in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at. In fact, it performed well when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The last area we scored was short-term care. It received an F for this category, which is a very poor grade. This is clearly a major disappointment. In computing our short-term care grades, we analyze the nursing home's levels of highly skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other types of therapists. This category is generally a solid assessment of the nursing home's rehabilitation. Considering its grade in this category, we weren't stunned to learn that this nursing home is well below average in terms of the number of physical therapy and registered nurse hours offered to its residents based on the metrics we looked at. Lastly, we assessed the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that just 3.6 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.
