Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

We awarded this nursing home one of our better scores in our long-term care category, where it earned a B+. Long-term care ratings of this caliber generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. After considering the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 99.05123 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is far higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B

This nursing home's inspection grade also was better than its overall grade. Due to a quality inspection report this year, it received one of our better scores in that category with a B. Inspection scores weigh several factors included in a facility's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we rely on is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with better grades in this category generally have very few severe deficiencies. This place was hit with 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe. This tells you that the inspectors did not consider any of these deficiencies to cause an immediate risk to resident safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

The next highest grade we gave this nursing home in any area came in the category of nursing, where we gave it a grade of B-. In calculating our nursing grades, we assess both staffing levels and the levels of licensure of those nurses. This facility provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Lastly, despite not having the most impressive total nursing hours, this facility actually performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is usually a reliable indicator that a nursing home has quality controls in place.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

This facility's least impressive category was short-term care, which is the last area we assessed. In this area, we awarded this facility a grade of just D. In forming these short-term care scores, we quantify the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our goal is to formulate a scale for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different facilities. In this nursing home's case, we found that it provides less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. The last statistic we considered in this area is the number of patients who who were able to eventually return home from the nursing home. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 3.9 percent of its patients returning home.
