Our inspection grades are based on datapoints located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that excel in this area have few deficiencies on those reports. Adding to its superb profile, this facility also performed well in our short-term care area. In fact, we gave it a grade of A in that area. In the area of short-term care, we try to evaluate indicators of a nursing home's rehabilitation. We analyze the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and various therapists. When we assessed this facility's nursing hours, we found it offered more care from registered nurses than most nursing homes. The final measure we looked at in this area is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. It fared as well as just about any nursing home in Minnesota in this area with 60.7 percent of its patients returning home.
Long-term Care Quality
Turning our next category, this facility was given a top-shelf long-term care grade. In fact, we gave it a score of A in this category. Facilities that excel in long-term care tend to be well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to residents. On top of very favorable nursing hour statistics, this nursing home's vaccination records is as good as it gets also. In fact, it vaccinated 98.02956 percent of its patients for pneumonia. This combination proved to be successful as this place also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had just 1.28 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a significantly better hospitalization rate than most nursing homes.
Nurse Quality
The final area we rated was nursing, where this nursing home was given a grade of B+. This topped off a first-rate report card. Only a select few facilities earned a B+ or better in every category. The nursing grade considers a host of subcategories. The most important factor is the number of hours nurses spend with patients. This facility provides an extremely impressive 4.2 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This is among the higher totals in the country. Lastly, this facility also performed well in several of the quality-based metrics we looked at. For example, in terms of the percentage of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, this place performed better than the national average. This is often an indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls. Pressure ulcers can generally be avoided with better nursing care and having a policy of regularly turning residents to avoid bed sores.
