Facility Inspections
Although this nursing home's overall grade was as bad as it gets, it performed well in the category of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a B for that area, which is one of our better scores. Arguably the most critical factor we look at in determining our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a facility's recent inspection reports. It is generally best to avoid facilities that have a long list of severe deficiencies. Fortunately, although this nursing home had some minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means that CMS didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A few minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
We were also pleasantly surprised to discover that this nursing home earned a reasonably solid long-term care rating this year. We gave it a C in that area. With our long-term care grade, we focus on the quantity of care offered by a nursing home, as well as some quality statistics. After considering the volume of care provided by nurses, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination data. Frankly, we were a bit alarmed this facility vaccinated only 82.30913 percent of its patients against pneumonia. On a more positive note, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.03 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Nurse Quality
In addition, we gave this facility an F in the area of nursing care. Nursing grades are largely based on a facility's nurse staffing. This facility provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing scores. This nursing home fared well in the area of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these statistics to be reliable measures of the quality of nursing care.
Short-term Care Quality
The final category we rated was short-term care. This facility received a rock bottom grade of F in that area. In determining our short-term care scores, we look at the facility's levels of highly skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other highly skilled individuals. This score is often a solid measure of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. Considering its weak grade in this area, we weren't surprised to discover this place offers substantially fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most nursing homes. Finally, we considered the number of patients who eventually returned home from this nursing home. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 5.1 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit off the national average.
