Facility Inspections
On top of being a top notch nursing home overall, it also excelled in inspections, where it earned an A. Not many facilities performed better in this area. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining our inspection grades. One critical factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these can be quite minor. While this nursing home had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means that the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
Adding to its first-rate profile, this nursing home also received a dominant long-term care grade, with a score of A. Nursing homes that do well in long-term care tend to be well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to patients. In addition to assessing the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is very impressive. Pneumonia is often a life threatening illness for nursing home residents so we prefer when a facility doesn't leave this to chance. Lastly, we looked at the nursing home's number of hospitalizations. With 1.93 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home is just about middle of the pack in this area.
Nurse Quality
Adding to its strong resume, this facility also received an excellent nursing score, with a grade of A. Our nursing rating considers a variety of factors. The most heavily weighted variable is the quantity of hours nurses spend with patients. This place provided 4 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This is an impressive statistic which typically corresponds with quality care. Lastly, this place was also above average in each of the major quality measures we looked at in this category. It performed well in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.
Short-term Care Quality
The final category we assessed was short-term care, where this nursing home was awarded a grade of B. Believe it or not, this proved to be this facility's weakest category. A nursing home is doing something right when it's lowest score still is better than most other nursing homes. In determining our short-term care grades, we analyze the nursing home's levels of highly skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other licensed professionals. This grade is often a reliable measure of a facility's rehabilitation. When we assessed this facility's nursing hours, we found it offered more care from registered nurses than most nursing homes. The last statistic we looked at in this category is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We found that 41.3 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.
