Facility Inspections
While this nursing home's overall grade was not a highlight, it actually excelled in the category of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A- for that category, which is one of our highest scores. Inspection ratings weigh several factors, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can learn more about each of these factors by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this place had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were severe based on CMS' scale. A few minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.
Short-term Care Quality
Turning to the area of short-term care, this facility received a grade of just D in this category. As it turns out, this proved to be one of its better grades. Our short-term care grades are considered to be most important for folks in need of rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation typically utilizes more skilled nursing services. This means not merely nursing, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. Not surprisingly, we discovered that this facility provides substantially less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than a typical facility. The last measure we looked at in this category is the number of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 5 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these poor metrics sunk this facility's short-term care grade.

Long-term Care Quality
Our third area we looked at is long-term care, in which this nursing home received an F. When nursing homes receive this type of grade in this category it is typically a bad sign for resident care and it may indicate that the nursing home is not as well-staffed. One of the datapoints we considered on top of nursing hours was vaccinations. We were a bit alarmed this nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccination to only 85.64477 percent of its residents. Surprisingly, this nursing home was actually decent at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had just 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. This is its best feature in this category.
Nurse Quality
Moving on to our final category, this nursing home didn't perform very well here either. Due to a poor grade of F in nursing, this is really as bad as it gets. The nursing rating is based on many data points. The most heavily weighted factor is the number of hours nurses spent with residents. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. On top of receiving below average scores for total nursing hours, this place was less impressive in some of the quality-based measures we looked at in determining our nursing ratings. We looked at the percent of patients suffering pressure ulcers and found that this place was at roughly 1.5 times the national average in this metric. This is a bad sign when you consider that many bed sores are believed to be preventable with better nursing care. Unfortunately, this statistic pulled down this facility's nursing score substantially.
