Facility Inspections
Although we graded this nursing home incredibly poorly overall, it actually received a very impressive inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our more favorable scores in that area with a B. These inspection grades weigh several factors, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these items by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Fortunately, although this nursing home had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G through L. This means the inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A few minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.
Nurse Quality
Turning to the area of nursing care, this facility received a grade of just D in this category. Unfortunately, this ended up being one of its better grades. Nursing scores are mostly associated with a facility's level of nurse staffing. This place provided a meager 3.3 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This is not a very impressive figure. In addition to receiving below average scores for total nursing hours, this place was less impressive in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at in determining our nursing ratings. We looked at the percentage of patients sustaining pressure ulcers and found this facility was at roughly 1.5 times the national average in this statistic.
Long-term Care Quality
Unfortunately, this facility received an F for its long-term care score. When nursing homes receive this kind of score in long-term care it is often a bad sign for resident care and it may indicate that the facility is not as well-staffed. After considering the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination records. Candidly, we were a bit alarmed this nursing home vaccinated 56.28743 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which happens to be quite a few points less than the national average. Unfortunately, this nursing home's hospitalization rate was also a cause for concern. Here we found that this nursing home had 2.42 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an alarming rate.
Short-term Care Quality
The next area we scored is short-term care. Sadly, it received an F in this area, which is a very poor score. Our short-term care grade is typically used to gauge a nursing home's rehabilitation services. To offer highly graded rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to provide better levels of highly skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other highly skilled individuals. It appears that this facility was subpar in terms of its quantity of registered nurse and physical therapy hours offered to its residents based on the data we assessed. The final metric we looked at in this area is the number of patients who eventually returned home from the facility. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 20.9 percent of its residents returning home.
