Nurse Quality

Grade: A

This nursing home received a strong overall grade as discussed above, but we especially wanted to point out its excellent nursing grade. We awarded them an A in this area. We weighed the levels of nurses employed by the nursing home, in addition to the quantity of time those nurses worked with residents, in computing our rating in this category. This nursing home averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This place performed very well when it comes to avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

This facility also performed well in our inspection category, which is based on its inspection reports. In fact, we gave it a grade of B+ for that category, which is one of our best grades. Inspection scores are tied to many datapoints located in the a nursing home's government inspections. Nursing homes that score well in this area have few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these places should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. This place was hit with 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be severe deficiencies. This means that CMS didn't deem any of these deficiencies an imminent threat to patient safety or health. We should point out that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in the industry.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

This facility also was given a strong long-term care grade. Indeed, we awarded it an above average score of B in this category. Nursing homes that excel in this category tend to provide patients with better supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. In addition to looking at the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents. Vaccines are vital to keeping patients out of the hospital. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The last category we analyzed is short-term care. We awarded this nursing home a grade of B- in that area. In determining these short-term care scores, we look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The objective is to devise a scale for comparing the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. However, according to the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final measure we looked at in this area is the number of residents that were able to return home from the nursing home. We found that just 4.7 percent of this facility's patients returned home. This figure was below the national average.
