Facility Inspections
We also wanted to emphasize the fact that this nursing home has received near flawless inspections in recent years. We awarded them an A+ in this category. Arguably the most important factor we look at in computing our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places with higher grades in this area typically dodged the most severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. While this nursing home had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you CMS didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This top notch facility also performed remarkably in the area of long-term care, where we awarded it a grade of A+. Very few nursing homes fared better in this category. Facilities that do well in this category tend to provide patients with more supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. After looking at the impressive nursing hours and other staffing provided by this facility, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination record. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is far higher than most nursing homes. This combination proved to be effective as this place was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 1.13 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a significantly lower hospitalization rate than the majority of nursing homes.
Nurse Quality
This facility also excelled in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of A-. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. The nursing score weighs many factors. The most important one is the quantity of hours nurses spend with residents. With 4.6 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis, this place surpassed the overwhelming majority of nursing homes. Finally, this nursing home also excelled in the quality-based metrics we assessed. For example, it fared as well as any nursing home the country in terms of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We view these areas as reliable measures of the quality of nursing care being provided.
Short-term Care Quality
The final area we looked at was short-term care. We awarded this nursing home an acceptable score in this area, with a C. Even though this is not as strong as many of this nursing home's other grades, it is still not a terrible score. In the category of short-term care, we seek to evaluate indicators of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. We analyze a facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and various therapists. Fortunately, it appear that this facility employs registered nurses. Not every facility employs these types of nurses. However, based on the data this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final statistic we looked at in this area is the number of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 0 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is actually below average.
