Facility Inspections

Grade: A

One of the reasons this turned out to be a quality nursing home is that it received a very impressive grade in inspections. Inspections turned out to be its best category. In that area, we gave this facility a grade of A. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in calculating these inspection ratings. One of those factors is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies end up being relatively minor. While this place had some minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G through L. This tells you the government inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

Contributing to its dominant profile, this facility also excelled in our short-term care area. In fact, it received a grade of A for the area. In forming our short-term care scores, we assess the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our purpose is to devise a scale for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different facilities. Fortunately, it looks like this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not every facility employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final metric we looked at in this area is the number of residents that ultimately were able to return home from the facility. We found that 6.3 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

Adding to its strong resume, this facility also received an excellent nursing score, with a grade of A-. Our nursing score focuses on the facility's nurse staffing levels. We look at both the levels of skill of the nurses as well as the amount of time spent with patients. This particular nursing home provided 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can frequently be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

The final area we analyzed was long-term care, where this facility received a B+. This finished off a very favorable report card. Not many facilities received a B+ or higher in every single category. Facilities that receive this kind of grade in long-term care typically provide consistent 24/7 care to make sure patients are kept in good health. One of the data points we considered after nursing hours is vaccines. This nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccine to 96.68508 percent of its residents. This is a proven method to minimize unnecessary deaths for the senior population. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
