Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

One of the reasons this ended up being a strong facility is that it received an impressive inspection grade. Inspections is its best category grade. In that category, we awarded this facility an A-. Inspection ratings weigh several factors, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these issues by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this nursing home had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor made us feel better about this inspection report.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

This nursing home also received a strong nursing score. In fact, we awarded it an above average grade of B+ in this area. Nursing grades are largely tied to a facility's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can generally be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

Turning to the next category, this nursing home also received a score of B for its short-term care rating. This is a well above average score in this category. Our short-term care grade is generally employed to measure a nursing home's rehabilitation services To offer highly rated rehabilitation services, facilities generally must offer higher levels of highly skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other highly skilled individuals. Fortunately, it looks like this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not every facility employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last item we considered in this area is the percentage of residents that returned home from the nursing home. We found that 4.2 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

Turning to our fourth category, this facility was awarded a decent long-term care score of B-. For long-term care residents, the primary goal is to maintain patients' quality of life and keep them safe. Once we looked at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination record. We were optimistic to learn that this nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia. Finally, this place was also able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
