Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

The main reason this facility received a decent overall score is its excellent health inspections in recent years. We awarded it one of our better scores in that area, with an A-. This is a notably better grade than the facility's overall grade, which was decent but certainly not elite. Perhaps the most significant factor we look at in determining our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes with higher grades in this category typically avoided the most severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. This facility received 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered to be major deficiencies. This indicates that the government inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies to create an immediate threat to resident health or safety. We should point out that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in the industry.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

We also awarded this nursing home a strong score in short-term care. This nursing home received a B+ in this category, which happens to be one of our more favorable grades. Our short-term care grades are probably more critical for residents requiring rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation generally mandates additional highly-skilled nursing services. This means not merely nursing, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this facility employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Finally, we looked at the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 5.3 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

Next, we looked at the nursing category where we awarded this nursing home a grade of B-, which is a decent grade. The nursing grade is based on a variety of subcategories. The most heavily weighted one is the amount of time nurses spend with residents. This nursing home provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Finally, nursing grades also factor in quality-based measures, such as avoiding major falls. Despite not having the highest total nursing hours per resident, this nursing home actually performed admirably in the metric of preventing major falls. This is usually a reliable indicator that a facility has sufficient quality controls in place. Some falls could be avoided if a nursing home provides enough nurses to assist its patients.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

The last category we assessed is long-term care. We awarded this facility a D in our long-term care category, rendering this the nursing home's least impressive grade. In a long-term care setting, the primary objective is to maintain residents' quality of life and keep them safe. One of the statistics we considered in addition to nursing hours was vaccinations. Thankfully, this nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccine to 95.108696 percent of its residents. To our surprise, this facility also keeps its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had just 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Sadly, some of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.
