Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

This nursing home earned a short-term care grade which is stronger than its overall score. We gave this nursing home a B+ in this area. In the area of short-term care, we seek to qualify indicators of a facility's rehabilitation. We look at a facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses and various therapists. Fortunately, it looks like this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not every facility employs these skilled professionals. However, according to the data this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last datapoint we assessed in this category is the number of residents that ultimately returned home from the facility. We found that 5.9 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

Inspections is another area where this nursing home excelled. In fact, we gave this facility an B+ for our inspections category. Arguably the most critical factor we consider in calculating our inspection scores is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Places with higher scores in this category typically dodged the more severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. While this nursing home had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. A few minor deficiencies should not stop you from considering a nursing home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

Next, we looked at the nursing category where we awarded this nursing home a grade of B-, which is a decent grade. Nursing scores are based in large part on quality and quantity of nursing care. This place provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, despite not having the highest total nursing hours per resident, this place performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is generally a reliable indicator that a facility has sufficient quality controls in place.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The next category we rated was long-term care. We gave it an F for this category, which is a poor grade. This is clearly a significant concern. When nursing homes receive this kind of score in long-term care it is often a bad sign for patient care and it may mean that the place is not as well-staffed. On top of assessing the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to just 75.96567 percent of its residents, which is somewhat alarming. To our surprise, this place was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility had fewer hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. This is its best score in this category.
