Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

In addition to being a quality nursing home overall, this facility really fared well in the area of long-term care, where it received an A-. Few nursing homes fared better in this area. Facilities that receive this type of grade in this category typically provide consistent 24/7 care to make sure patients are well cared for. In addition to considering the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia is often a deadly health condition for nursing home residents so we like it when a nursing home doesn't take any chances. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

We also wanted to emphasize this facility's nearly flawless health inspections recently. We awarded them an B+ in this category. Inspection grades account for a host of factors included in a facility's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we weigh heavily is the number and severity of deficiencies. Places with better grades in this area generally have few severe deficiencies. Fortunately, although this place had some minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G through L. This tells you that the government inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. We should point out that deficiency-free inspection reports are rare in the industry.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

This nursing home is also strong in the category of short-term care, where it was awarded a grade of B+. It performed better than most nursing homes in this category. In our short-term care grade, we try to craft a sound barometer for rehabilitation services. In this process, we look at the facility's levels of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. Unfortunately, we were not able to find information about this nursing home's registered nurse or physical therapy staffing. Finally, we assessed the percentage of patients that ultimately returned home from this nursing home. We found that 5.9 percent of this nursing home's residents were able to return home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

In the final category we graded, this facility received a very favorable grade of B+ in our nursing category. With this grade, the facility finished off a first-rate report card. When computing a nursing home's nursing score, we consider the quantity of hours nurses are seeing patients and the level of licensure of those nurses. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This nursing home performed very well when it comes to minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.
