We want to point out that this nursing home really outperformed its overall grade in the area of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless inspection report this year. As a result, we gave it one of our highest grades in that category with a grade of A+. Our inspection grades are based on datapoints found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that score well in this area have few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these places should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. This facility received 6 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered to be major deficiencies. This tells you that the inspectors didn't deem any of these deficiencies to pose an imminent risk to resident health or safety. A couple of minor deficiencies shouldn't stop you from considering a nursing home.

We also gave this nursing home a positive score in long-term care. This facility earned a grade of B in this area, which is one of our more favorable grades. When facilities receive a grade in this range in this category it generally means it has plenty of staff and is an overall good place to live on a permanent basis. After looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Finally, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

The next highest category we awarded this nursing home in any area came in the category of short-term care, where we awarded it a C. In the category of short-term care, we seek to qualify indicators of a facility's rehabilitation services. We assess the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and various therapists. Unfortunately, this place was below average in terms of its level of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its patients based on the measures we assessed. The critical question is whether this adversely affected quality of care. The final metric we looked at in this category is the percentage of patients that ultimately were able to return home from the facility. We found that just 5 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.

Switching gears to our last area, this facility didn't fare well. With a poor grade of F in nursing, this is its poorest grade. Our nursing score assesses many data points, most of which are tied to nursing hours. This place offered a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient each day. We found that a higher percentage of this nursing home's residents experienced falls which led to major injury. We would argue that many falls could be avoided with better nursing care. This statistic contributed to this facility receiving a terrible nursing score.
