Facility Inspections
The main reason this turned out to be a decent nursing home is that it earned an excellent inspection score. In fact, its inspection score was far superior to its overall grade. In the inspections category, we gave it an A. Inspection ratings are tied to several items located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that excel in this category tend to have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these facilities should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. This facility was hit with 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered to be severe deficiencies. This indicates that the inspectors did not deem any of these deficiencies to be an immediate threat to resident health or safety. A couple of minor deficiencies shouldn't stop you from considering a nursing home.
Short-term Care Quality
This facilities second best category is short-term care. We awarded it a grade of B- in this category. This is basically a slightly below average grade in this category. Our short-term care ratings are based on a nursing home's quantity of skilled nursing services. This means a wide range of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Unfortunately, this place was below average in terms of its number of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its residents based on the measures we assessed. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients that were able to return home from this facility and discovered this was this facility's strongest datapoint within this area. This place fared well in this area with 64.6 percent of its patients returning home. Most nursing homes are below 50 percent in this metric.
Nurse Quality
Another strength of this nursing home is its favorable grade in nursing. We awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with an impressive grade of D. The nursing rating includes many components, but the most important one is the quantity of nurse hours per patient per week. This nursing home provides 3.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. On top of its weak nursing hour totals, this place received suboptimal marks in many of the quality-based metrics we looked at in determining our nursing scores. We found that more of this nursing home's patients sustained falls which led to serious injury. We believe that many falls could likely be avoided with better nursing care. This statistic contributed to this nursing home receiving a poor nursing score.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home's least impressive category is long-term care, which is the last category we assessed. In this area, we awarded this facility a grade of D. Nursing homes that receive this kind of grade in long-term care may not provide the kind of consistent around the clock care that some other nursing homes offer. One of the factors we considered on top of nurse's aid hours is vaccines. This facility administered the pneumonia vaccination to 91.81495 percent of its residents. Surprisingly, this facility actually fared well at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 1.18 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. This is its best feature in this category.
