Long-term Care Quality
In addition to being a quality facility overall, this nursing home really performed well in the area of long-term care, where it earned an A+. Few nursing homes fared better in this category. When nursing homes receive a score in this range in long-term care it generally means it has plenty of staff and is an overall good place to live on a permanent basis. Once we looked at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 99.68204 percent of its patients against pneumonia. Vaccines are vital to keeping residents out of the hospital. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 1.56 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility has fewer hospitalizations than the average nursing home.
Facility Inspections
Adding to its impressive category grades, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for our inspections rating. Perhaps the most critical factor we consider in determining our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Facilities with higher grades in this category typically avoided the more severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. This place received 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered severe. This means that the government inspectors didn't consider any of these deficiencies to cause an immediate threat to resident health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Nurse Quality
The next highest grade we gave this nursing home came in the category of nursing, where we gave it a grade of C. This wasn't quite as good as some of its other scores, but a grade in this range is not the end of the world. There are several subcategories within this category. Most of these factors are tied to staffing levels. This particular nursing home provided 3.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality measures and this facility excelled in some of these datapoints. With less than five percent of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, it performed very well in this datapoint. This is typically an indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as employing a policy of turning a patient more often.
Short-term Care Quality
The final category we graded is short-term care. We gave this facility a grade of D for the area of short-term care, rendering this its weakest category grade. In crafting these short-term care grades, we assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our goal is to create a scale for comparing the rehabilitation services of nursing homes. In this place's case, we found that it offered fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than a typical facility. The final measure we looked at in this area is the percentage of patients that were able to return home from the nursing home. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 35.7 percent of its patients returning home. Unfortunately, this was well below average.
