Facility Inspections
On top of receiving a great overall rating, this facility fared even better in the area of inspections which is associated with the facility's recent government inspections. In fact, we gave it an A for this area, which is one of our highest scores. Perhaps the most important factor we consider in calculating our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Places with higher grades in this area most likely avoided the more severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. Although this nursing home had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
Among the reasons we graded this nursing home so highly is that it received a strong long-term care grade. Indeed, long-term care ended up being its second highest category score. In that area, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A. Facilities that do well in this category typically are well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to residents. Once we assessed the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination record. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia. Vaccines are vital to keeping patients healthy. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality
Turning to another strength for this nursing home, we gave them one of our stronger scores in our short-term care category as well, with a B. With our short-term care assessment, we endeavor to forge a valuable barometer for rehabilitation services. In doing so, we assess a nursing home's level of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this facility employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. However, according to the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we looked at the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 4.6 percent of this facility's patients returned home.
Nurse Quality
The next category we rated was nursing. We awarded this nursing home an acceptable score in this area, with a B-. While this was not on par with several of this nursing home's other grades, it is nevertheless not the end of the world. Our nursing grade is based on the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We weigh both the levels of training of those nurses and the quantity of hours spent with patients. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This figure is far below the national average. Finally, we like to look at quality-based statistics, such as the percent of residents who experienced pressure ulcers and major falls. Sometimes these statistics are decent indicators of the quality of nursing care.
