Facility Inspections

Grade: A

This facility received a strong overall score as described above, but we especially would like to emphasize its nearly flawless government inspections in recent years. We awarded them an A in this area. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining our inspection grades. One of those factors is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more important than the number of deficiencies, as some are quite minor. This nursing home was assessed 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered to be major deficiencies. This means that the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies to create an immediate risk to resident safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

This nursing home also received a strong nursing score. In fact, we awarded it an above average grade of B+ in this area. Our nursing grade is primarily associated with a nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This particular nursing home provided 0 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home Louisiana in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can frequently be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as having a protocol of moving patients more often.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

The third area we looked at is long-term care. This nursing home was awarded a very positive long-term care score, with a B+ in the category. In a long-term care setting, the nursing home's primary goal is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. Once we assessed the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination record. We were not able to track down information on vaccination rates. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

Moving on to the last category, this nursing home received a highly favorable short-term care grade. This facility did not turn out to have any noticeable weaknesses. Our short-term care ratings are thought to be more meaningful for folks in need of rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation generally mandates more highly-skilled nursing. This means not only nursing services, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that this nursing home submitted information about its staffing of registered nurses or physical therapists. The final statistic we considered in this area is the number of patients who eventually returned home from the nursing home. We found that 5.2 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.
