Facility Inspections
While this facility's overall score is not a highlight, it actually received a slightly more favorable grade in the area of inspections. We awarded it a B- for that category, which is a decent score. We believe that one of the most critical factors in assessing an inspection report is deficiencies. In this regard, we especially look at the severity of the deficiencies. Fortunately, although this nursing home had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Lastly, this facility was flagged by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. We prefer to avoid facilities with this designation. Please do your best to find an alternative nursing home.
Nurse Quality
This nursing home actually received a decent grade in the area of nursing as well. We awarded it a grade of B- for that category, which is not a bad score. Nursing scores are mostly based on a facility's nurse staffing. This nursing home averages 3.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed a few nursing quality-based metrics and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its patients sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed well in this subcategory.
Short-term Care Quality
The third most favorable category we awarded this facility in any category came in the area of short-term care, where we awarded it a grade of B-. Short-term care ratings are based in part on a nursing home's quantity of skilled nursing services. This includes a vast range of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. This nursing home elevated its grade in this category by offering more care from registered nurses to its residents than the average facility. The final measure we looked at in this category is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. It was respectable in this area with 48.6 percent of its residents returning home.
Long-term Care Quality
Our last area is long-term care, in which we awarded this facility a grade of B- in this area. In the category of long-term care, we analyze the amount of services provided by a facility, rather than more medically-intensive services. Once we looked at the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination record. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is more than the average nursing home. The last datapoint we assessed is the nursing home's hospitalization rate. We found that this place had 1.97 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is not too far off the national average.
