To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for our inspections rating. Our inspection grades account for several factors found on a facility's inspection report. One key criteria we consider is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with higher grades in this category typically have very few of these severe deficiencies. This nursing home was assessed 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be severe. This means that CMS did not deem any of these deficiencies to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

We also wanted to note the fact that this facility received a superb grade of A in our short-term care category. Short-term care grades are based in part on a nursing home's quantity of skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This includes a broad scope of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this facility employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last metric we assessed in this area is the number of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that 6.2 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.

This facility also was elite in the category of long-term care, where it received a score of A-. Only a select group of nursing homes received a better grade in this category. Nursing homes that do well in long-term care tend to provide patients with closer supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. Once we looked at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination record. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is far higher than most nursing homes. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

In the last area, we awarded this facility a A+ for its nursing grade. This rounded out a very strong report card. Our nursing score assesses several factors, but the primary consideration is the quantity of nurse hours per patient per week. This nursing home averages 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also factored a few quality-based metrics into our nursing grades. This facility was relatively weak in two of the major areas we focus on, with below average scores for minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. These areas are generally reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care provided.
