We also wanted to point out that this nursing home has received near flawless inspections in recent years. We gave them an A+ in this area. Inspection grades account for several factors included in a facility's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we look at is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with higher grades in this area generally have very few of these severe deficiencies. This nursing home was hit with 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe. This indicates that the government inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies an immediate risk to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility also was awarded a very impressive short-term care score. This actually is its second most impressive category grade. In that category, this facility received a grade of A-. Our short-term care scores are meaningful for prospective residents in need of rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally utilizes more skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes a wide range of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Finally, we assessed the number of residents that ultimately were able to return home from this facility. We found that 5.5 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.

This nursing home also was given a very strong long-term care grade. This actually turned out to be its third most impressive category score. In that category, we awarded this facility a grade of A-. Once we assessed the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is significantly higher than most nursing homes. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
The last category we rated was nursing, where this nursing home was given a grade of B+. This finished off an elite report card. Very few nursing homes earned a B+ or higher in all four categories. We assessed the qualifications of nurses employed by the facility, in addition to the quantity of time the nurses worked with patients, in computing our grade in this category. This facility provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can typically be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
