Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

On top of earning a strong overall grade, this facility performed even better in our inspections category which is associated with the nursing home's recent government inspection reports. We gave it an A- for that category, which is one of our highest scores. Perhaps the most critical factor we look at in computing our inspection grades is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a facility's inspection reports. Facilities with higher scores in this area most likely dodged the most severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. This nursing home was assessed 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered to be major deficiencies. This means that the inspectors didn't consider any of these deficiencies to pose an imminent risk to resident safety or health. We should point out that deficiency-free inspection reports are rare in the industry.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

We also awarded this facility a grade of A- for our short-term care grade. With our short-term care rating, we seek to create a valuable measure for rehabilitation services. In doing so, we assess a nursing home's levels of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. Unfortunately, we weren't able to locate information about this nursing home's registered nurse or physical therapy staffing. The last metric we looked at in this area is the number of residents that ultimately returned home from the facility. We found that 6.4 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

This facility received a very good nursing grade this year as well. It received one of our better scores in that category with a grade of B+. Our nursing score looks at the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We factor in both the levels of skill of those nurses and the amount of time spent with residents. This nursing home provides 0 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This nursing home performed very well in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The next category we analyzed was long-term care, where this facility received a grade of C. Although this proved to be its least impressive category rating, this is nevertheless not a bad grade. In calculating our long-term care ratings, we quantify the facility's personal care services. After looking at the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination statistics. We were a bit concerned this facility vaccinated 87.5 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which happens to be quite a bit less than what we were hoping for. On a more positive note, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
