Although we gave this facility a very poor overall score, we awarded it a B for our nursing rating. The nursing grade analyzes several datapoints, most of which are associated with quantities of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 3.6 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This place performed better than average in this area. This is often a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can often be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

We were also surprised to find that this facility earned a solid short-term care rating in our assessment. We gave it a grade of B- in this category. In forming our short-term care scores, we look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The objective is to formulate a barometer for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various nursing homes. One of this nursing home's strengths is registered nurse hours. We found that it offers more care from registered nurses to its residents than most facilities. Lastly, we considered the number of patients that ultimately were able to return home from this nursing home. It performed respectably in this metric with 48.2 percent of its patients returning home.

Historical

We awarded this facility a grade of just D for our long-term care rating. This is not a score to write home about. When facilities receive a grade in this range in this category it typically means the facility didn't perform well in our measures relating to resident care. Once we looked at the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination record. We were a bit bothered by the fact that this facility vaccinated 90.15151 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which happens to be quite a bit below the national average. To our surprise, this facility was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home had fewer hospitalizations than the average nursing home. This was its best feature in this category.

The last category we assessed is inspections. This nursing home didn't receive glowing inspections in recent years. Consequently, we had to give it an F. For nursing homes with poor inspection scores, you should really scrutinize any severe deficiencies found on their recent inspection reports. This particular nursing home was assessed 9 deficiencies by CMS. The only positive thing we found is that none of these deficiencies were in the categories that indicate they created a threat to resident health or safety. Finally, this facility also received 15 substantiated complaints in recent years. This is yet another bad sign.
