In addition to being a first-rate nursing home overall, this nursing home also excelled at short-term care, where it received an A+. In the category of short-term care, we endeavor to evaluate indicators of a facility's rehabilitation. We analyze a nursing home's skilled nursing services, including the ones performed by registered nurses and various therapists. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last measure we considered in this category is the number of residents who eventually returned home from the facility. We found that 6.6 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.

This facility has also received near flawless health inspections in recent years. We awarded them an impressive grade of A+ in this category. Arguably the most critical factor we look at in calculating our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Places with better scores in this area typically dodged the more severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. Fortunately, although this place had a few minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you CMS didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

We also want to draw your attention to the fact that this facility was awarded a dominant score of A- in our long-term care category. Long-term care ratings in this range generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. After looking at the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is far higher than the average nursing home. Lastly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

The last area we rated was nursing. This facility was given a better than average nursing rating this year, with a B. While this was not quite as elite as several of its other category grades, this is still one of the stronger scores in this category. Nursing scores are heavily correlated with levels of nurse staffing. This nursing home averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed certain nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these statistics as predictive indicators of the caliber of nursing care provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
