Long-term Care Quality
In addition to receiving a strong overall grade, this facility performed well in our long-term care category. In fact, we awarded it an A for that category, which is one of our highest scores. If you are seeking anything other than short-term rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each facility's long-term care ratings. After considering the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 83.67347 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is somewhat lower than we expected but still a reasonably acceptable figure. The last statistic we looked at was its hospitalization rate. Here we found that this place had 3.16 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. While this wasn't as strong as most of its other scores in this area, this figure can be skewed for some facilities due to some of the preexisting medical conditions of residents.
Facility Inspections
In addition, this facility received excellent inspections in recent years. We awarded them one of our better scores in that category, with an A-. Inspection ratings are tied to many pieces of information located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that score well in this area typically have few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these places should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. While this place had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that CMS didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
The third most favorable area we gave this facility in any area came in the area of short-term care, where we gave it a B-. Our short-term care ratings are considered to be more important for patients needing rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation typically utilizes higher levels of highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes not only nursing services, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. We were pleased to find that this nursing home employs both registered nurses and physical therapists. The same can't be said for all nursing homes. The last item we considered in this area is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. This place performed well in this metric with 59.8 percent of its patients returning home. This proved to be a big boost to its grade in this area.
Nurse Quality
This nursing home's least impressive category was nursing, which is the last area we analyzed. In this category, we awarded this nursing home a grade of D. Our nursing rating weighs a host of factors. The most important factor is the number of hours nurses spend with residents. This nursing home provides 3.7 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is slightly below average. Although this nursing home's nursing hours are below average, it actually surprised us in some of the qualitative data points in this category. In particular, we were pleased to see that its patients appear to be sustaining fewer pressure ulcers than the national average.
