Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

We want to point out that this nursing home outperformed its overall grade in the category of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest scores in this category with an A-. Perhaps the most significant factor we look at in computing our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes with higher grades in this area typically dodged the most severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. This place was hit with 6 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered severe. This indicates that CMS didn't deem any of the deficiencies to pose an imminent risk to resident health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is always a good sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

In addition, we also would like to note that this nursing home was awarded strong long-term care marks this year. We gave them one of our more favorable scores in that area, with a grade of B. This turned out to be the facility's second best score. For prospective patients looking for a permanent residence as opposed to rehabilitation, long-term care grades are a key measure. After considering the volume of nursing care, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 84.07079 percent of its residents against pneumonia. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Turning to the area of short-term care, this nursing home was awarded a grade of just D in this area. With our short-term care assessment, we try to forge a meaningful measure for rehabilitation. In doing so, we assess the facility's levels of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. Based on its score in this area, we were not surprised to find that this facility was well below average in terms of the number of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents based on the metrics we looked at. Finally, we considered the percentage of patients that returned home from this nursing home. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 0 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

Switching gears to our next area, this nursing home didn't fare very well. Due to a rock bottom grade of F in nursing, this is this nursing home's worst category grade. We weighed the licensure of nurses at the facility, in addition to the number of hours those nurses worked with patients, in determining our score in this area. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. On top of performing poorly in terms of nursing hours, this place also had terrible scores in the quality-based metrics we looked at in calculating our nursing scores. For starters, we looked at the percent of patients experiencing major falls and pressure ulcers. This place was at more than twice the national average in both of these data points.
