Facility Inspections
To go along with its favorable overall grade, we awarded this place an A+ for inspections. Our inspection scores are based on many items found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that score well in this category tend to have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. While this place had some deficiencies on its report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor made us feel better about this inspection report.
Nurse Quality
This facility really excelled in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of A-. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. Our nursing grade includes a variety of subcategories. The most important variable is the amount of time nurses spend with residents. This facility provided 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as by employing a system of moving residents even once per day.

Long-term Care Quality
This facility also received a strong long-term care score. In fact, we awarded it an above average score of B in this area. Nursing homes that excel in this category tend to provide residents with closer supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. In addition to considering the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is far higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
Short-term Care Quality
The final area we graded is short-term care, where this nursing home received a B-. Even though this proved to be its poorest category grade, this is still not a bad grade. Short-term care grades are commonly employed to grade a nursing home's rehabilitation services. To have quality rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to offer higher levels of skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other licensed professionals. Fortunately, it appear that this facility employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final item we looked at in this category is the number of residents who eventually returned home from the nursing home. We found that just 0 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home. Unfortunately, this was below the national average.
