Facility Inspections
This nursing home received a strong overall grade as described above, but we especially wanted to emphasize its nearly flawless government inspections in recent years. We gave it an A in this category. Arguably the most critical factor we look at in determining our inspection grades is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places with higher grades in this category most likely dodged the most severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. This nursing home received 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were considered severe. This tells you that the inspectors did not deem any of these deficiencies to pose an immediate threat to patient health or safety. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor made us feel better about this inspection report.
Long-term Care Quality
In addition, this nursing home also received favorable long-term care grades this year. In fact, we gave them one of our better scores in that area, with a grade of B. When nursing homes receive a grade in this range in this category it generally means it's well-staffed and is a quality place to live on a permanent basis. On top of offering well above average levels of nursing care, this nursing home gave the pneumonia vaccine to 99.72222 percent of its patients. This statistic is also significantly better than the average nursing home. Finally, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 1.65 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility has fewer hospitalizations than the average nursing home.
Short-term Care Quality
The next area we analyzed was short-term care, where this facility was awarded a B- in this category. Short-term care grades are often used to judge a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation To offer highly scored rehabilitation services, facilities generally must provide higher levels of skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other highly skilled individuals. This nursing home employs both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities employ these skilled professionals. Lastly, we considered the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. In fact, we found that it outperformed the majority of facilities in the nation in this area with 49.6 percent of its patients returning home. This is a higher rate than most nursing homes.
Nurse Quality
The final area we looked at was nursing. This nursing home was awarded a B- in the category. In calculating a facility's nursing score, we look at the amount of time nurses are seeing patients as well as the levels of training of the nurses. This nursing home offers extremely high levels of nursing care, averaging 4.4 hours per resident per day. This is well above average. Lastly, we also looked at a few quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This nursing home was above average in most of these metrics, with good marks for minimizing its patients' major falls and pressure ulcers. These statistics are often reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care a nursing home offers.
