Facility Inspections

Long-term Care Quality
Among this facility's other accomplishments is its superb long-term care score. We awarded them one of our more favorable grades in that category, with a grade of A. For patients seeking a permanent residence rather than skilled nursing, long-term care is an important category. On top of assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 85.65401 percent of its residents, which is a few points lower than we were hoping for. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Nurse Quality
In addition, this facility also received favorable nursing grades this year. In fact, we awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with a grade of B. In calculating our nursing grades, we look at both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the skill levels of the nurses. This facility provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can typically be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
Short-term Care Quality
Turning to the fourth category, this nursing home was awarded an acceptable short-term care grade. While this is not nearly as good as some of its other scores, this is truly a middle of the pack score. In computing our short-term care ratings, we analyze the facility's levels of highly skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other highly skilled individuals. This category is typically a fair assessment of the facility's rehabilitation. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every facility employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the information they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Lastly, we considered the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 4.6 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most facilities, closer to half of their residents are able to return home so this figure is below average.
