Facility Inspections
While this nursing home's overall grade was decent, it really fared well in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A for that category, which is one of our best scores. Inspection scores account for several factors included in a nursing home's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we consider is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with higher grades in this category typically have few severe deficiencies. Amazingly, this was one of the few nursing homes in the country that had no deficiencies whatsoever on its inspection report. This is very impressive. You can't do much better than a deficiency-free inspection report.
Long-term Care Quality
Another one of this nursing home's better category scores was in the category of long-term care. In that area, we gave this nursing home a B. It actually fared better than most facilities in this category. Facilities that do well in this category tend to be well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to patients. Once we assessed the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination record. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia. Vaccines are vital to keeping patients out of the hospital. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home's third best category is short-term care. In that category, we awarded this facility a C. Our short-term care scores are believed to be most meaningful for individuals needing rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation generally requires higher levels of highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes not merely nursing services, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. We were not able to find registered nurse or physical therapy staffing data for this nursing home. The last item we considered in this area is the percentage of patients that who were able to eventually return home from the facility. We found that just 4.7 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home. Unfortunately, this was below average.
Nurse Quality
Turning to our last category, we gave this nursing home a D for the area of nursing. This was the facility's worst category grade. Sadly, this grade hurt the facility's overall profile to some degree. When determining our nursing grades, we factor in both nursing hours and the skill levels of those nurses. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. To go along with its low totals in the area of nursing hours per patient, this facility also didn't perform as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in calculating our nursing grades. We looked at the percentage of residents sustaining major falls and pressure ulcers. This place had more pressure ulcers and falls than the average facility.
