Facility Inspections
The main reason this facility received a decent overall grade is its impeccable inspections in recent years. We awarded it one of our better grades in that category, with an A-. This is a much better score than the place's overall grade, which was decent but not in the elite range. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating our inspection grades. One of those factors is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some of these end up being quite minor. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Based on this, we still had positive view of this facility's recent inspections.
Nurse Quality
This facility also excelled in the category of nursing, where it received an B. Few nursing homes fared better in this area. Nursing ratings are mostly tied to the facility's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 3.2 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed certain nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these datapoints as good indicators of the caliber of nursing care offered, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
Long-term Care Quality
The next most favorable area we awarded this nursing home in any category came in the area of long-term care, where we gave it a grade of C. In crafting these long-term care grades, we quantify the nursing home's personal care services. One of the statistics we considered after nursing hours is vaccinations. Thankfully, this nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccination to 96.52778 percent of its residents. Finally, this facility was also able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
Short-term Care Quality
Moving on to our final category, we gave this facility a D for short-term care. This was the nursing home's worst category rating. In our short-term care rating, we seek to craft a meaningful measure for rehabilitation. In doing so, we analyze a facility's scope of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. We found that this facility was below average in one of the two key staffing areas we looked at. It offered fewer physical therapist hours per resident than most other nursing homes. Finally, we looked at the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. This definitely was not a strength for this facility. We found that just 26.7 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most facilities, around half of their residents are able to return home so this is well below average.
