Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

One of the many reasons this place ended up being a quality nursing home is it earned an A+ inspection grade. This is just about as good as it gets in this very important category. Inspection ratings weigh several factors, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these items by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Fortunately, although this place had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G through L. This tells you that the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Contributing to its fine assessment, this nursing home also was awarded a superb short-term care grade, with a grade of A. In determining our short-term care grades, we scrutinize a facility's levels of highly skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other highly trained professionals. This area is considered to be a fair assessment of a facility's rehabilitation. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the information they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last measure we looked at in this area is the percentage of residents that who were able to eventually return home from the facility. We found that 6.4 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

The next category we analyzed was long-term care. Contributing to its strong profile, this facility also performed well in that category. In fact, it received a grade of of A for that category. When nursing homes receive this kind of score in this category it is a good sign for patient care and suggests that the nursing home is well-staffed with nurses aids. One of the statistics we considered on top of nursing hours was vaccinations. This nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its residents. This is a proven method to minimize unnecessary hospitalizations for the nursing home population. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

The next category we scored is nursing, where this nursing home was given a grade of B. This actually ended up being this facility's least impressive category. A facility is doing something right when it's weakest grade still outperforms most other nursing homes. Nursing scores are based in large part on levels of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at certain nursing quality measures in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these data points as predictive measures of the quality of nursing care provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
