Facility Inspections
We also wanted to emphasize the fact that this nursing home has received near flawless inspections recently. We gave them an impressive grade of A+ in this category. These inspection scores take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these issues by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This nursing home received 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe. This tells you that the inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies to create an immediate threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home also was strong in the area of long-term care, where we awarded it a score of A. Few facilities received a better grade in this area. When nursing homes receive a grade in this range in this category it generally means it has plenty of staff and is an overall good place to reside on a permanent basis. Once we assessed the volume of nursing care, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia is often a life or death illness for nursing home patients so we like it when a facility doesn't roll the dice on this issue. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Short-term Care Quality
We also wanted to emphasize the fact that this facility was awarded a dominant score of A in our short-term care category. In computing our short-term care ratings, we look at the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our goal is to devise a tool for comparing the rehabilitation services of nursing homes. Fortunately, it looks like this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not every facility employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final datapoint we considered in this category is the percentage of residents who returned home from the nursing home. We found that 6.3 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.
Nurse Quality
In our final area, this nursing home also was awarded an impressive nursing rating, with a grade of A. This finished off an elite profile. Our nursing grade includes several data points. The most heavily weighted one is the number of hours nurses spent with residents. This nursing home averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality-based metrics and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as having a protocol of turning a patient more frequently.
