We want to point out that this facility outperformed its overall grade in the category of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest scores in that category with a grade of A-. Inspection ratings weigh several factors found on a nursing home's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we weigh heavily is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with better scores in this category generally have few severe deficiencies. While this facility had some minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G through L. This means that the inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A couple of minor deficiencies should not lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.

Another one of this nursing home's more favorable category scores came in the category of short-term care. In that area, we awarded this nursing home a grade of B. In our short-term care score, we try to forge a sound gauge for rehabilitation. In doing so, we look at a facility's offerings of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last datapoint we looked at in this category is the percentage of residents who eventually returned home from the nursing home. We found that 5.6 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.

Another strength of this nursing home is its favorable grade in nursing. We gave them one of our better scores in that area, with an D. We weighed the skill-level of nurses working for the nursing home, as well as the quantity of hours the nurses worked with patients, in calculating our rating in this category. This facility provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing scores. This nursing home fared well in the area of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these statistics to be good measures of the quality of nursing care.

The next category we graded was long-term care, which was this facility's weakest category. Unfortunately, we gave it an abysmal F in this category, which is obviously a major disappointment. For patients looking for a permanent residence as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care is a very important category. Once we assessed the amount of care provided by nurses, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination record. We were pleased to discover that this facility vaccinated 96.979866 percent of its patients against pneumonia. To our surprise, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility had fewer hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. Sadly, a few of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.
