Nurse Quality

Grade: A-plus

We also wanted to emphasize the fact that this facility excelled in our nursing rating. We awarded them an impressive grade of A+ in this category. When computing a nursing home's nursing grade, we look at the number of hours nurses spend with patients and the level of skill of the nurses. This nursing home averages 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This place performed very well in the area of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

This facility really excelled in the category of short-term care, where we awarded it a score of A. Very few nursing homes performed better in this category. In our short-term care assessment, we endeavor to craft a sound barometer for rehabilitation. In this process, we look at a nursing home's level of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final item we assessed in this category is the number of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We found that 5.8 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

Turning to an additional strength for this nursing home, we gave them one of our more favorable grades in our long-term care category as well, with a B+. Long-term care scores of this caliber generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. After considering the quantity of nursing care, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 87.94326 percent of its residents for pneumonia. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B-minus

In the final area we looked at, we found that this nursing home received a solid government inspection report this year as well. It earned a decent score in inspections with a B-. Inspection grades are tied to many data points found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are a key item to look for on these reports. Severe deficiencies indicate a risk to patient safety. Fortunately, although this facility had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G through L. This tells you that CMS didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. We should note that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in this industry.
