Facility Inspections
On top of faring well overall, this facility received an excellent inspection report. Consequently, we gave it one of our highest grades in this category with a grade of A. Our inspection grades account for a host of factors found on a nursing home's inspection report. One key criteria we rely on is the number and severity of deficiencies. Places with higher grades in this area usually have very few of these severe deficiencies. While this facility had a few deficiencies on its report, none were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
Adding to its impressive resume, this nursing home also excelled in our long-term care category. In fact, we gave it a score of A in that area. Facilities that receive this type of grade in long-term care tend to provide consistent 24/7 care to make sure residents are kept in good health. In addition to considering the impressive level of care provided by aids and other staff at this facility, we also were pleased by the facility's vaccination data. This facility administered the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is what we like to see. This combination proved to be effective as this nursing home also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
Nurse Quality
Adding to its strong resume, this facility also received an excellent nursing score, with a grade of A-. Our nursing grade is largely based on a facility's nurse staffing. This particular nursing home provided 7.8 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This was one of the more impressive figures we found. In addition, we found that a significant percentage of this care was provided by registered nurses, which are highly skilled nurses. These are both really impressive figures. On top of offering high levels of care, this facility also performed well in several of the quality-based metrics we assessed. In terms of the percentage of its residents suffering falls leading to major injury, this facility performed as well as any facility the nation.
Short-term Care Quality
The last category we rated ended up being this facility's weakest area. Nevertheless, even its worst category would likely be a strength for many facilities. In fact, we gave it an above average grade of B for our short-term care category. In our short-term care assessment, we try to create a sound gauge for rehabilitation services. In doing so, we analyze the nursing home's scope of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. One of this nursing home's strengths is registered nurse hours. We found that it offers more care from registered nurses to its residents than most facilities. The final metric we assessed in this category is the percentage of residents who who were able to eventually return home from the facility. We found that 0 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.
