Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

One of the many reasons this turned out to be a quality nursing home is that it received an A+ inspection grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this critical category. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining these inspection scores. One key factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more important than the number of deficiencies, as some end up being relatively insignificant. Although this place had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

Another reason we graded this nursing home so highly is that it received an A+ long-term care grade. This is flat out as elite as it gets in this category. When nursing homes receive a grade in this range in this category it typically means it's well-staffed and is a quality place to live on a permanent basis. Once we assessed the volume of nursing care, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is very impressive. Pneumonia sadly is often a deadly ailment for nursing home patients so we strongly prefer when a facility does not leave its residents vulnerable. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

This facility also was given a fine short-term care grade. In fact, this is this facility's third most impressive category grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of A-. Our short-term care ratings are based in part on a facility's quantity of highly-skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This includes a broad scope of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, in addition to other types of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. However, according to the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last metric we assessed in this area is the number of residents that who were able to eventually return home from the facility. We found that 5.8 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

The next category we graded is this nursing home's worst category. However, even its worst category would likely be a highlight for most nursing homes. In fact, we gave it a strong grade of B in nursing. There are quite a few subcategories within this area. Many of the subcategories are tied to staffing levels. This nursing home provides 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This nursing home performed very well in terms of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.
