Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

One of the many reasons this turned out to be a quality nursing home is that it received an A+ inspection grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this critical category. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining these inspection scores. One key factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more important than the number of deficiencies, as some end up being relatively insignificant. Although this place had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

One of the other reasons we rated this nursing home so well is that it received a very impressive long-term care score. Indeed, long-term care turned out to be its second best category grade. In that category, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A-. When nursing homes receive a score in this range in long-term care it typically means it has plenty of staff and is a quality place to live on a permanent basis. After considering the quantity of care provided by nurses, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination record. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is very impressive. Pneumonia tragically can be a dangerous illness for nursing home patients so we strongly prefer when a facility does not leave this to chance. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

Turning to the category of nursing care, this facility didn't perform quite as well in this area as some of the categories discussed above. Nevertheless, a grade of B- in this category is by no means a bad score. When calculating our nursing grades, we assess both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the skill levels of those nurses. This facility provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Lastly, despite not having the most impressive total nursing hours per resident, this place performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is generally an indicator that a facility has sufficient quality controls in place.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The last category we scored was this facility's weakest category. Nevertheless, even in its weakest link we still gave it an acceptable grade of B- for our short-term care category. Our short-term care scores are important for individuals requiring rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically mandates more skilled nursing. This includes a broad range of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final metric we assessed in this category is the percentage of patients that returned home from the nursing home. We found that just 4.2 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.
