Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

In addition to performing well in its overall grade, this nursing home received high marks in our short-term care rating as well. It received our highest score in that category with a score of A+. Short-term care grades are often used to judge a facility's performance with rehabilitation. To have highly rated rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must feature better levels of highly skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other licensed professionals. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. However, according to the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last datapoint we considered in this area is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the facility and return home. We discovered that 6.4 percent of this facility's residents returned home.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

In addition, this facility also excelled in the area of inspections, where it received a grade of A-. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. Arguably the most important factor we look at in computing our inspection scores is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a facility's inspection reports. Places with higher grades in this category typically avoided the more severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. While this place had some deficiencies on its report, none were severe based on CMS' scale. Remember that deficiency-free inspections are uncommon in the industry.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

This facility really excelled in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of A-. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. The nursing rating features a number of factors. The most heavily weighted variable is the quantity of hours nurses spend with residents. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This place performed very well when it comes to avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

Switching gears to our final area, this facility received a decent long-term care rating. Even though this wasn't as dominant as many of its other category grades, this is truly a middle of the pack score. Long-term care grades focus on a nursing home's assistance with daily living rather than the highly skilled nursing or healthcare services that are critical to a skilled nursing facility. Once we looked at the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination records. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is more than most nursing homes. Lastly, this place was also able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
