Facility Inspections
While this place's overall grade was as bad as it gets, it actually didn't perform terribly in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a C for that category, which is one of our better scores. Inspection scores weigh a host of factors included in a facility's inspection report. One key criteria we weigh heavily is the number and severity of deficiencies. This nursing home was hit with 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to find that none were in categories J through L. This indicates that CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies to place patient safety or health in immediate harm or jeopardy. Unfortunately, we also need to draw your attention to the fact that this facility received significant government fines in recent years.
Nurse Quality
This facility really excelled in our nursing category, where it received a grade of C. Few nursing homes performed better in this category. Nursing ratings are primarily associated with a facility's nurse staffing. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this place fared better in some of the quality measures we assessed. It performed well in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.

Long-term Care Quality
This facility ended up receiving a rock-bottom grade in our long-term care category. It received a lowly F in this area. In a long-term care environment, the nursing home's primary goal is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. After we finished assessing the amount of nursing care, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination data. We were optimistic to find that this nursing home vaccinated 99.53917 percent of its residents against pneumonia. To our surprise, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home has fewer hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. Unfortunately, a few of its other scores in this category weren't as favorable as these.
Short-term Care Quality
The next category we analyzed is short-term care. It received an F for this area, which is a bottom of the barrel grade. Short-term care grades are commonly used to gauge a facility's performance with rehabilitation. In order to have quality rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to have higher levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other types of therapists. Based on its poor grade in this area, we were not surprised to find that this nursing home offers substantially fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most nursing homes. Finally, we assessed the percentage of residents who who were able to eventually return home from this nursing home. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4.2 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.
