Facility Inspections
Although this nursing home's overall score was not a highlight, it did receive a very good grade in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of B for that area, which is one of our better scores. Our inspection scores are based on many items found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are a key item to look for on these reports. Most importantly, you should avoid facilities with severe deficiencies linked to risks to resident well being. While this facility had a few minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G through L. This tells you that CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A few minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.
Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home's short-term care rating turns out to be one of its best features. The nursing home received a B- in this category. With our short-term care assessment, we strive to forge a sound measure for rehabilitation services. In doing so, we analyze the nursing home's offerings of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. Unfortunately, we found that this place provided fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other nursing homes. The more important thing is determining what bearing this had on quality of care. The final datapoint we assessed in this area is the percentage of residents who returned home from the facility. It performed much better in this metric with 63.2 percent of its patients returning home.
Nurse Quality
This nursing home actually received a decent grade in the area of nursing as well. We awarded it a grade of C for that category, which is not a bad score. In determining a nursing home's nursing rating, we weigh the amount of time nurses are seeing patients and the level of skill of those nurses. This facility provided just 3.1 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics. Although this nursing home got dinged a bit for nursing hours per resident, it excelled in some of these quality-based metrics. With fewer than five percent of its patients sustaining pressure ulcers, it fared well in this subcategory. This is often an indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as having a protocol of turning residents more often.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home's worst area is long-term care, which is the last area we analyzed. For this category, we gave this facility a grade of just D. Facilities that do not fare well in long-term care typically aren't as well-staffed and are lagging in a few of the areas of routine healthcare services we looked at. After considering the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination records. Candidly, we were a bit concerned this facility vaccinated 61.864407 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is several points below average. Lastly, we looked at its number of hospitalizations. We found that this place had 2.5 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Unfortunately, this figure is also concerning.
