We want to draw your attention to the fact that this facility outperformed its overall grade in the area of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless inspection report this year. As a result, we gave it one of our best scores in that category with an A. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining our inspection scores. One critical factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these can be quite insignificant. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even some of the best nursing homes receive an occasional ding on their inspection report.

One of this nursing home's higher category grades came in the category of short-term care. This proved to be its second most respectable category. In that area, we gave this facility a grade of B-. With our short-term care score, we strive to create a fair barometer for rehabilitation services. In this process, we look at a facility's scope of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. We were pleased to find that this nursing home employs both registered nurses and physical therapists. The same can't be said for all nursing homes. The final metric we looked at in this area is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 0 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is actually below average.

The next highest grade we gave this nursing home in any area came in the category of nursing, where we gave it a grade of B-. When calculating a nursing home's nursing score, we weigh the amount of time nurses spend with patients as well as the level of licensure of those nurses. This facility provided just 2.6 hours of nursing care per resident daily. This figure is significantly below the national average. Finally, despite not having the most impressive total nursing hours, this nursing home actually performed admirably in the metric of preventing major falls. This is typically a reliable indicator that a facility has quality controls in place.

Historical

Our last area is long-term care, in which we gave this facility a C in that area. Our long-term care grades are more meaningful for those in need of more conventional assistance related to personal care. One of the data points we considered on top of nursing hours is vaccines. Fortunately, this facility provided the pneumonia vaccination to 100 percent of its patients. This place also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
