On top of faring well overall, this facility received an excellent short-term care rating. In fact, we gave it a grade of A- in that category. Our short-term care grades are based in part on a facility's quantity of skilled nursing services. This means a vast range of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, not to mention other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we looked at the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 5.6 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

Adding to its profile, this facility also earned a score of B+ for its long-term care rating. This is an above average grade in this area. Nursing homes that receive this kind of grade in this category typically provide consistent around the clock care to ensure residents are well cared for. Once we assessed the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia. Vaccines are critical to keeping residents healthy. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

In addition, this facility also excelled in the area of inspections, where it received a grade of B+. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining these inspection ratings. One key factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is usually more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these end up being relatively minor. Although this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed better than average in this area. This is often a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can often be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
