Facility Inspections
It should also be noted that this facility's inspection grade outpaced its overall score. In fact, we gave it a B+ for its inspections grade, which is a very solid score. Inspection grades weigh several factors, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can find more information about each of these issues by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Fortunately, although this facility had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that the inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor leaves us less concerned with this inspection report.
Short-term Care Quality
Another one of this facility's more impressive category grades came in the area of short-term care. In that category, we awarded this facility a grade of B+. Our short-term care ratings are arguably most meaningful for patients needing a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically utilizes more highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes not merely nursing, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other types of therapy. Fortunately, this nursing home offers both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities offer both. Lastly, we looked at the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home, which as an area this facility performed much more favorably. We found that it outperformed the vast majority of facilities in the nation in this area with 62.2 percent of its residents returning home. This is a significantly higher rate than most nursing homes.

Nurse Quality
An additional reason we rated this nursing home so highly is that it received an A+ nursing grade. There are a host of factors within this category. Many of these subcategories are tied to levels of nurse staffing. This nursing home averages 3.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed better than average in this area. This is often a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can often be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
Long-term Care Quality
Our last area is long-term care, in which we awarded this facility a grade of C in that category. Long-term care grades are typically used to assess a nursing home's performance as a traditional nursing home, as opposed to focusing on the skilled nursing services offered by a rehabilitation facility. On top of looking at the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents. This facility also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had just 1.12 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a much better hospitalization rate than most nursing homes.
