One of the reasons this ended up being a quality nursing home is that it received an impressive inspection rating. Inspections turned out to be its best category. In that category, we awarded this facility a grade of A. Arguably the most critical factor we consider in calculating our inspection scores is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places with better grades in this area typically avoided the most severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. This nursing home was hit with 8 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe. This tells you that the government inspectors did not deem any of these deficiencies to pose an imminent risk to patient safety or health. The fact that none of the deficiencies were severe leaves us less concerned with this inspection report.

This nursing home performed well in our nursing category. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A for that category, which is one of our highest scores. Our nursing rating is largely based on the nursing home's nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 3.8 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at a few quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This nursing home excelled in these areas, with excellent scores for minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. These areas are generally reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care a facility provides.

This nursing home also was given a favorable long-term care grade. Indeed, we gave it an above average score of B in this category. For residents in need of a permanent residence as opposed to rehabilitation, long-term care is an important category. After we finished assessing the quantity of nursing care, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 60.54591 percent of its residents for pneumonia. The last statistic we assessed was the nursing home's hospitalization rate. We found that this nursing home had 3 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. While this wasn't as impressive as most of its other scores in this area, this figure may be skewed for some nursing homes based on the preexisting medical conditions of patients.

The last area we graded was short-term care. This facility received a very good short-term care rating in our assessment, with a grade of C. Although this was not quite as dominant as several of its other scores, this is nevertheless an acceptable score for that area. Our short-term care scores are based on the nursing home's quantity of skilled nursing services. This includes a broad scope of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other types of therapy. One reason for this facility's strong score in this category is that it provides a greater volume of physical therapist hours to its residents than the average nursing home. Lastly, we considered the number of residents who were able to return home from this nursing home. We found that 22.6 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was actually below the national average.
